I'd like to propose adding in the idea of badges or achievements to our next competition. I've brought this up in the chat room a couple of times, but it's time to make the idea an official proposal here in the forum.
The idea would be to pick maybe 30 to 50 little mini-goals that people can try to accomplish during the competition. Some might be humorous, some might be serious, some might be bad things that you get rewarded for because it's part of the process of making games.
Some examples:
It's Just Temporary: You put in artwork in your game that you claim is temporary, until you or your friend can provide you with better art.
The Apprentice Becomes the Master: The competition ends and your temporary art becomes permanent without ever being upgraded to the final version, which was never made. (Requires: "It's Just Temporary")
Law of Live Demos: You show your WIP to somebody. Something goes horribly wrong.
Game Over: You implement the ability for players to lose the game. (Also, you just lost the game.)
Gratuitous Blood: Your explosions and deaths result in far more destruction than is necessary or even believable.
Happy Accident: You accidentally create a bug that leads to humorous results. Post the video or screenshot in the Happy Accident thread.
I can see coming up with a list of these, and then allowing people to claim them when they have them. (Not quite sure how this would be implemented yet, but we can worry about that if we decide to actually do this.) In other words, you'll be the one deciding if you unlocked the achievement, not some central committee or moderator.
Thoughts?
