With the first competition wrapping up yesterday, it's time to start talking about the next one. I'd love to get feedback from people on how soon we want to get started on Round 2, and what we'd like to see stay the same and what we'd like to see change. Any thoughts?
I thought that the first one was pretty fun, and I'd love to do it again! However, first I want to finish Earthling Defenders (my last project, for anyone who doesn't know) before starting something new. Maybe mid April? I'm not sure how long it's going to take me for sure, but I'll keep posting updates on the other forum.
As for what I'd like to see stay the same, definitely an IRC channel again! I haven't been in there for a little while, but that was really fun.
Obviously I'd like the theme to change, haha! Maybe instead of providing a game to clone/ripoff/whatever, like Space Invaders, it can be more open ended, like Exploration?
I agree with you about the open ended part, for sure. (Not that having a SI theme stopped people from making just about everything but.) On the other hand, for beginners, cloning a game is much easier than trying to invent something, and I think there's something to be said about that. I suspect there's probably a way to define things such that beginners will have a suitable game to clone while other people don't feel quite so constrained in picking something to make. What do you think, Marcus?
