This thread is a place to officially declare that you're going to be attempting to make a game in our Game Development Competition #1 (Space Invaders theme). It is not required to sign up here. But I still recommend it, if for no other reason than once you've made a public statement that you're going to do it, you're far more likely to follow through on it. (Don't worry if things end up falling apart and you never finish though. We won't beat you up over it.)
I, RB Whitaker, am officially declaring that I'm joining the Game Development Competition #1!
Unlike what I said in the description post above, if I don't complete my game, I want you to give me a hard time about it. I'm intending on using this game as the basis for my game-from-scratch tutorials. I will also make my code available during development for anybody to take a look at. (That's not a requirement for anyone else.)
I'm going to be doing a Space Invaders themed game with a twist. (So I'm sticking with the theme, but stretching it quite a bit.) I look forward to giving out some details over the next few days.
Let's do this thing!
I'm adding my name to the official sign up list, of course!
"May the mercy of His Divine Shadow fall upon you." - Stanley H. Tweedle, Security Guard class IV, The League of 20,000 planets
I didn't get a chance to say hello over in the other post, but welcome aboard Marcus42!

I kind of wish I could have accounts specific to my own site, but I can't. They're across all of Wikidot.
I, Swat AKA Swatty AKA Swat-tacular AKA Swatistic AKA whatever…..
Will be signing up for this blah blah number one..
I will NOT be doing a space invaders theme and will instead do a Super Tic-Tac-Toe.
I will make my own forum topic and hopefully update it regularly.
OK, I'm making a NEW project as soon as the timer hits midnight and its 2/7/14, I wont do any of this "work beforehand" stuff
Hee hee hee… I'm sitting here right now doing some game design/trying to figure out how this game is going to behave/writing some UI framework code as we speak… I'm technically not working on the game, except for things the official rules (which I, myself put together) allow in advance.
Now that you bring it up, I, too, think that I'll be creating my official game project at midnight, just like you!
mabye we can use skype or something so we can all program together at the same time??? some type of chat interface?
Uh… funny you should mention that. I just posted this: http://rbwhitaker.wikidot.com/forum/t-770120/irc-channel
I will hopefully be joining as well.
Hi, newcomer here!
This is the incentive I need to actually dive into developing something. I'll be using unity, since I'm not confident enough to program a game from scratch yet (started learning C# just recently). I plan on making a space game as well, though it's not really simillar to space invaders. I'll start the game design now and hopefully have something decent to star developing by 2/7
See ya!
Awesome! Glad to have you along for the ride, Gabriel!

Cool. It will be fun to have somebody doing Unity!
well.. 5 days left and we are up to 6 people.. thats a nice small crowd..
Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with that number. I would have guessed 2-4. And there's still plenty of time for more people to jump in too.
I'm going to take a shot at it too. I'm going to try to use XNA, or MonoGame, but I have more experience using Java with LWJGL. Kind-of a C# newbie, but I will still give it my best. :) I feel like I'm going to be spending a lot of time on this. Can't wait to start!
Excellent! I'll bet everything you know from Java and LWJGL will go a long way in helping you do well with C#/XNA.
The competition is now getting underway, but it's not too late to join us!
Nobody here will complain if you start a few days late, or if you shift your start and end dates to suit your needs.
Even if you don't join, please don't hesitate to jump in and comment on the games that we're building, or jump into the IRC channel to talk with us!
