The link to the next tutorial at the bottom of this page is wrong. The link in the getting started tutorial list is correct however.
Note I had to install openAL in order to get my project working. This looks like it's commonly installed with other stuff, but a newer computer may not have it yet.
thanks a lot Rb for this great tutorial. I had been following your xna tutorial before i found out that i could no longer develop xna games, immediately i upgraded my machine from windows 7 to windows 8 (ugly thanks to Microsoft for Discontinuing XNA). now i wish to start around the monogame framework, but im having some problems seeing the "cornflowerblue" screen!
1. an error came up with an SDL.dll file not found from a specified directory "C://programfiles/users/monogame/3.0/Assemblies/ " i knew this was wrong, because directory "User" is not actually found in program file. so my quick fix was to remove the"SDL.dll" file from the project and added it again from the correct directory.
2. Now i'm facing another one which says: "The type initializer for 'OpenTK.Graphics.GraphicsMode' threw an exception." found on this part of the code:
public Game1()
: base()
{
graphics = new GraphicsDeviceManager(this);
Content.RootDirectory = "Content";
}
this time i guess i do not know what this is all about because i'm totally new to Monogame.
I'm using registered versions of visual studio 2010 ultimate and 2012 Ultimate. does this have anything to do with the versions or with my graphics card? Please i need a workaround about this. though it was a success running the default template (seeing the cornflowerblue) when i chose project type "monogame appstore (XAML)" for windows 8 app store, but i need to run my games on other versions of the windows OS. please i need your help. thanks in ad and keep up the Good work.
Can you get a stack trace for the error and post it? That exception message isn't very helpful.
Also, while I haven't seen that error myself, this link might be of some use: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17766944/type-initializer-exception-opentk-and-monogame
Hello,
How can i install it on Visual Studio 2013 Pro Preview?
Tryied to look for templates in Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0 folder after normal installing MonoGame, to copy to the Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0 folder, but i have no idea how they should look, and there's nothing in the Csharp folder, where templates'd be.
Problem solved.
I did't have VS2012 before, and MonoGame templates are ussually installed in C:\Users\*Username*\Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Templates\ProjectTemplates\Visual C#
So I made a copy of 2013 folder here and renamed it to 2012.
Installed MonoGame once more and found templates in the path i mentioned earlier.
Then i copied them to the 2013 folder and they work nicely.
Maybe someone'll need this.
Best wishes from Russia.
Glad you got it working. I'm going to be working through the VS 2013 stuff today, hopefully, and update these MonoGame intro tutorials.
I'm using MonoGame 3.2 for windows #528 (16 May 14 08:59) together with Visual Studio Express 2013.
When I create a new MonoGame Windows Project, the generated code references Microsoft.Xna.Framework.GamerServices which cause a build error.
It seems the MonoGame framework does not contain the class. I commented out that line, and it is able to build properly.
Not sure if anyone else encounter this error.
