I should start off by saying it's over. At least for now.
I was planning on posting my project's results in here from the beginning.
I was working with a team of 3 people, where all of us worked together at our day job.
Our game was loosely based on a book, and as such, we didn't want to say too much for fear of running into legal trouble before we could pitch the idea to the author (or the author's agent or publisher or whatever) to try to make an officially licensed game for the book. So we didn't say much here about what we were doing.
In a nutshell though, our game was a drawing game where what you drew came to life and battled with what your opponent drew. Definitely a grand vision, and we thought we could make a pretty solid prototype that could be used to get player feedback and to present to the aforementioned author. We didn't expect to get it truly complete. That would come later.
But work has kept me super busy. After nearly two years, we're reaching the last stretch before our product is released to the unsuspecting public, and robots take over the world. I've had very little time to do anything besides work the last few weeks. I've made it past a small hurdle, but I think all the way up until the end of the competition and beyond (until the end of September) is going to be crazy busy.
My team mates have known how crazy things have been for me (they've been in this craziness with me) and understand that I haven't had any time to get much done.
So today, after sorting through my emotions, I decided to officially leave my team. They've been busy too, and I don't think that game is going to get finished, at least not during the competition.
I know Marcus was going through similar things, switching to a new game recently, too. It's always hardand emotionalfor me to leave a game behind.
But this is where we're at.
I don't really see much of an end in sight, in terms of my busyness. I keep contemplating finding a much smaller game to try to work on alone. If I work on a game with very small scope, and if I don't try to collaborate with a team, I might be able to squeeze a few hours in here and there.
I can't make any promises though.
I'd like to go that direction, but I just need to see when and where I can get time available for something like that.
So I hope I start a new, different thread for a different, simpler game, but we'll just see how the cards play out this time around.
