Greetings all!
If you're here, you know we have a game programming collaboration coming up tomorrow, April 17th, 2021. Just thought I would go ahead and spell out of few things we are looking to make happen.
I. Complete a video game, with the definition of 'complete game' hitting the following minimum points: no bugs, a menu system, the ability to win or lose the game, a scoring system, and music.
II. Unlike previous competitions, we are going to actually publish this game. General discussion in the Discord channel has lead to the conclusion that we will not charge anything for this game, and that it is to be free for everyone. That being the case, we need to observe some basic precautions to avoid running afoul of some potential legal issues. See below:
- The game itself must be different enough from the game we are mimicking so that it stands as a unique work of its own.
- We CAN NOT use any existing graphics from the original game or other licensed/copyrighted materials.
- We need to come up with a name for the game that distinguishes it significantly from the original, or like games.
- As part of being a 'complete' game, we will also need to have a 'credits' screen for the end of the game (and as a menu option). On this note, please let PiscesMike know ASAP what you would like your credit listed as, and/or if you want to appear in the credits screen at all.
- Distinguishing Characteristic: We could add timed 'bombs' to each level that the player must defuse (can't be destroyed by gunfire).
There are a number of varying things which will need to be done but instead of spelling them all out which could take an entire page, I suggest everyone list what they want to do here. Personally I plan to stick with my normal routine, and will be handling the gathering of music and sound effects, importing/creating graphics, and since we need some menus this time, menus, a scoring system, and a credits screen.
Normally, RBWhitaker will set up a repository for us to work from, and I will create a Trello board to track the workflow. If you are not familiar with GitHub or Trello feel free to ask questions here, or at any time in the Discord channels (Chat (Discord) link above). GitHub does require a download for the desktop interface so you may need to get that installed beforehand.

May need to create a Trello account if you don't have one 8-)
