What is the consensus for how awards worked out in Competition #5? Are they worth including in Competition #6?
Hmm … I think it worked pretty well, actually. As far as I'm aware, none of the rewards were actually gotten around to being distributed, which is fine, but it was kinda fun to see the different awards being offered and to set your sights on getting one! If no one is interested in offering awards again, then I guess it can just be a fun little thing we did once, but I do think that it would be enjoyable to see them return.
Of course, I didn't offer any awards last time and probably wouldn't this time either, but I'm not just trying to get free stuff, I promise, lol! Actually, I don't think it would be a bad idea to have a few awards without any rewards at all, just a pat on the back or a bit of recognition for an accomplishment, maybe for some more specific requirements. (For instance, there could be an award for the game with the most play-time that doesn't have a reward, but if people were interested, there could be another one for the best game made that has a small reward, like the last time. Or there could just be no rewards at all.)
What do the people who actually offered stuff last time think? Or just anyone with an opinion!
Yeah, you're right. To my knowledge, none of the awards have actually been given out. That's partly/mostly my fault. I offered 3 rewards and gave them to people, and haven't carried through very well in actually delivering.
Part of my problem is that the reward I attempted to offer quite simply turned out to not be an option. I can't just give people $X through Steam, except in $20 increments. All of the prizes total were $20, so that didn't work out so well.
I talked with Swatacular and came up with an alternative for his reward (it was better than the $5 that he had won) but it was going to take 30 days do complete. We did the first part and haven't done the second part yet. It only became an option a week or two ago, when I was out of town. So I need to get that finished up.
I think with the two awards that you won, the plan was $15 on Steam. I have some options for you that are at least as good as that, so sometime when you're in the chat room, Marcus, let's talk and we'll get it sorted out.
For future reference: $X on Steam isn't a good way to go. I learned that the hard way.
The things that other people did (mostly just awarding a Steam game that had been sitting in their inventory unused for a while) is probably a much better choice.
