Hey man,

you site is super cool

Feedback is abt the site:
The XNA tutorial on 3D is not very cool though, this is because you told a lot of theorey, and then gave an example at atlast, may be, 1st you should showed a complete-picture (i mean screenshots of the program that we are going to build in the tutorial) you could do one-line of code, then described its effects, and then point to the figure number, anyways :) it still helpful in atleast 60%

Feedback on Evolution:
Your "README.txt" file doesnt say "anything". Ok, I clicked the exe, then what should I do? Only after seeing this thread I understood yes there should have been a menu :). I understand you dint check on other OS, its ok, thats why I feel, readme file helps. Hey however the low-resolution-video is cool (I saw it, din't hear, may be due to low resolution I couldn't see the menu)
On Windows 7 OS, the menu does not come up too.
I can see the main Evolution window. Also I can see Tranformations, Keyframes, Tweens windows.
However clicking on any button like "New" button and taking default name, and then clicking on "OK"
I get the below big exception.
Probably I am not seeing the menu too, and is the right way to start.
.
.
.
.
All aside, thanks a lot for your tutorial on XNA!! —» YOUR SITE ROCKS!
.
.
.
.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

** Exception Text **
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at Evolution.Keyframes.Keyframe..ctor(String name, Model model)
at Evolution.GUI.KeyframesPanel.newButton_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mevent)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.ButtonBase.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Button.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)

** Loaded Assemblies **
mscorlib Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900) CodeBase: file:/C:/Windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v2.0.50727/mscorlib.dll
Evolution Assembly Version: 1.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 1.0.0.0 CodeBase: file:/C:/Users/verycooluser/Desktop/Evolution-0-60/Evolution.exe
Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game Assembly Version: 3.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 3.0.11010.0 CodeBase: file:/C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game/3.0.0.06d5c3888ef60e27d/Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game.dll
Microsoft.Xna.Framework Assembly Version: 3.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 3.0.11010.0 CodeBase: file:/C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_32/Microsoft.Xna.Framework/3.0.0.06d5c3888ef60e27d/Microsoft.Xna.Framework.dll
msvcm80 Assembly Version: 8.0.50727.4927 Win32 Version: 8.00.50727.4927 CodeBase: file:/C:/Windows/WinSxS/x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4927_none_d08a205e442db5b5/msvcm80.dll
System.Windows.Forms Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900) CodeBase: file:/C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Windows.Forms/2.0.0.0b77a5c561934e089/System.Windows.Forms.dll
System Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900) CodeBase: file:/C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System/2.0.0.0b77a5c561934e089/System.dll
System.Drawing Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900) CodeBase: file:/C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Drawing/2.0.0.0b03f5f7f11d50a3a/System.Drawing.dll
System.Configuration Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900) CodeBase: file:/C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Configuration/2.0.0.0b03f5f7f11d50a3a/System.Configuration.dll
System.Xml Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900) CodeBase: file:/C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Xml/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Xml.dll

** JIT Debugging **
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this application or computer (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging enabled.

For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I just finished up my most recent game and wanted to take a look into 3d, which I have no experience in, and found your tutorials helpful, so thanks for that. Yes I was using evolution on Vista, i'll try XP later on today. I was interested in evolution because as I said i'm just starting out with 3d and our first 3d game is going to be a very low poly afffair, so even looking into something like a skinned mesh system is kinda overkill.

Thanks again for the help.

With the current version of Evolution, a menu strip should appear as another window. You should be able to open a file from there. However, I'm currently running Windows Vista and I'm not seeing that window for some reason. I'm working on fixing this, but I'll be honest with you, it probably won't happen until next month (March 2010). I'm trying to finish my masters thesis, and I don't have much time for other "fun" projects like Evolution.

To be honest, I'm surprised with how many people I have heard wanting to use this program. Apparently, there's a bigger need than I realized at first. I thought I was the only one. So once me thesis is finished, this will likely be on the top of my priority list. Hopefully we can get a nice working version up and running quickly.

Until then, I'd be curious to see if anyone can run this on an XP machine and tell me if it is still displaying the menu bar that seems to be missing for me in Vista. (Maybe that's what you're on already.)

As a side note, the F1 key also seems to be one of those keys that crashes the program.

Hello,

I'm interested in using Evolution, but i'm not sure how to load a model. I figured that you had to press a key, but after going throug every key on the keyboard, each key either does nothing or crashes the program (the U and S keys do that off the top of my head).

Could any help be provided?
