Well yes, I hate this, school really doesn't allow me to work on anything, because I'm either going to school, or relaxing because I got tired in school, or am studying for school. Not a lot of free time, but at least it's a computer related school!

I'm afraid that my game might not be finished by the time the competition ends, mainly because of school. I have been studying a lot this entire month, and the only time I was able to work on my game was during the weekends, and I didn't really have any free time during the last couple of them. I might finish the game this weekend, BUT I AM NOT GIVING UP, EXPECT UPDATES ON THIS THREAD EVEN AFTER THE COMPETITION ENDS! I might have a playable, half-done build up soon, but I will finish this game, even if it takes 10 years! Anyways, good luck on your projects and I hope you will finish your games in time for the end! I just hope I will finish this game in time!

Really, getting the game to be fun/interesting/challenging is one of the most difficult parts of game programming. From the sound of it, though, you've made great progress already (congrats!), so hopefully now you'll be able to make it more fun to play.

Hello guys! How are your projects going? My project is going well, only one issue… THE GAME ISN'T INTERESTING (yet). I have a semi-finished game and the part that is done is the basic game part. So I don't feel like working on anything else rather than fixing the spawning system that would POSE AN ACTUAL CHALLENGE. I mean the current game can be brought down to the level of clicking on every car in the middle lane and pressing A or D to move it out of the way. Even if you have a set of cars next to the car in the middle lane, you just press and hold S for a while until a free spot comes up. And I just don't want to do something like: who spent the least time holding S down will get the highest score. That would basically be calling a bug - a feature. I have a lot of work to do but I actually do enjoy it. I would rather spend an entire day programming and working on a game than going to school and studying for the next day. But I am surprised that I have something to show, and I have plenty of time left. Maybe I picked a very easy project, or Unity speeds up the game-making process.

I forgot about those. Took a couple of them and sent them to my friend, but forgot to upload them. You will have them shortly, just need to fix some errors in the code.

OK, update #2: Finally done something! I'll probably have a bug-filled, unfinished version with even the basic functions disabled out soon, but let's talk about what has been done!
#1 The Basic Selection (of course, using Raycasting)
There is a variable for each hacked car called hacked (bool) and when a Ray detects a hit with a car tagged as "HackableCar" it changes the variable's value to true, and reverses it on the previous hacked car. Pretty ingenious, right? (JK)
#2 Very basic movement (It can go forwards and backwards and switch lanes to the left - needs some tweaking)
#3 The very basic main menu - can't show that yet, my friend finished it and hasn't sent it to me, so even I don't know how it looks (he says no background and 2 buttons - play and exit) - don't worry, I'll give him more work to do…
That's it!
Yeah, I'll probably add some easter eggs that will be inspired by bugs! :D Though you will have to find out how to activate them :D

I really like the concept of this game. It takes the traditional driving game and inverts it. Rather than controlling your own car, you control everyone else's. It's a good concept!

As far as upgrades go, I'm curious if you're looking at more of a realistic scenario where your upgrades need to be based in reality (a temporary police siren that makes everybody else move away and slow down, better tires that make things move to other lanes faster, etc.) or more of a cartoonish style like Mario Kart, where you can have bananas and oil slicks etc.

OK, so where do I start…

Basic setup:
-You can pick between 3, 5 and 7 (for PC only because of the much larger screen) lane mode
-Your car is in the middle lane
-Your car moves faster then everybody else's
-Everybody else's cars are randomly spawned in lanes (each lane has a spawning point and a car spawns after a random amount of time - between two numbers to prevent crowding and emptiness)
-You can't control your car, but you can control everyone else's (one at a time and you can switch between them)
-You have full control of the car: Accelerate (then you become faster than your car), Decelerate (you become slower than every car you're not controlling), Left (switch lane to the left unless you're on the edge), Right (Left, only the other way).
Goal:
-You mustn't cause ANY collisions, and your car must pass
Game Modes:
-Survival, more will be considered
Might be implemented:
-Of course, to make some money for the Android, some adds and/or in-app purchases (none of these for PC)
-Skins (like you have cars, then you can have helicopters, boats, spaceships etc.)
-Different game modes
-Power-ups
Two scenarios: pick up during play and instantly use or pick up during play and put in storage and can be activated at any given time (this would also allow power-up purchases - not greedy, just looking at possibilities)
-Shield: shields your car from collisions (pushes other cars away or makes them go through your car), might change name to anti-magnet (since most people associate magnets with pulling, rather than pushing), might have a duration, might be instant
-Enable collisions: You still mustn't hit your car, but you can hit anyone else
-I want MY CAR: You get to control your car for a limited amount of time!
There might be more
Pickup method: still undecided

The speed of the cars is a variable, and will be decided after thorough testing. Difficulty MAY increase over time, or it will stay the same because the sheer amount of multitasking MIGHT be challenging so there wouldn't be a need for the increase in difficulty

So what do you think?
Also, what would you suggest for the OR parts? (Which thing would you pick?)

If you have any suggestions, feel free to post it

Extra information: We will be working in Unity, because of Android (I don't "speak" Java and ADK)

And I would just like to wish everyone who participates (including myself) good luck and lots of enjoyment!
