PiscesMike, I'm so sorry to hear this. Losing close family is the hardest thing to go through in life, and losing your mom is especially hard. I keep thinking about you and what you're going through, ever since I first read this message yesterday morning. While there's probably not much we could do to help, if there's a way we could help, be sure to let us know!

Hey guys, just wanted to give you all a heads up. My mom passed away today (4th), so I'll probably be busy for the next couple days taking care of final arrangements. I'm sure I'll still pop into chat when I can, but if you don't see me around much for the next couple days, you'll know why.

Peace and axle grease.

Just going to bump this since I changed up the thread so it fits with the entry. Again sorry I couldn't put links to pictures or a download but I need to be more active and gain karma to prevent spammers.

I'm working tomorrow but when I get home I'll check out everyone's projects, and if someone is somehow still wanting to play the Pong clone I made for the entry I'll send them a link in the IRC. Don't feel obligated though since it's not even one of my better clones of it, it was simply a way to say I didn't turn out empty handed after making a mess of my network code in Uber Questing.

Ok, I know you've all been waiting, so here it is: the final code updates as far as the competition goes. I'm sure I'll keep playing around with this one because I am having a great time working on this clone.

Anyways, Bitbucket repo for those who want to play around with things: (this one should have the files that were missing)
https://bitbucket.org/PiscesMike/castlevania-symphony-of-the-night

And for those who just want to play around with the executable:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5moEgyck5X5UElTMlRvNk1RQWM/view?usp=sharing
(Google Drive is a little funky with it's stuff… to download, you'll need to click the little button that looks like a down arrow on the top, middle of the screen. The install files come in an ZIP file.)

The beginning has a short video (~2 mins) thats a little background and intro to where this game starts off at. You can skip it by hitting 'Esc', but try to tap it kind of quickly as I just did a keyboard poll and if you hold it down, you'll miss the actual play part since once there, Esc ends the game. (I can take no credit for the video, although it wouldn't have been too difficult to code in, it seemed much easier to just rip a video since there's no user interaction at that point anyways)

A quick run down of controls:
Left-> Move left
Right-> Move right
A-> Attack
Space-> Jump
Esc-> Exit / End game

Well, the competition has officially come to an end. Been a while since I did an update, so later on tonight, I'll get the final one posted, with my typical postmortem analysis. Still not a whole lot different to see… just added the attack, the ability to 'bust' the candles, have the candles drop something (in this case, a small heart, and only on the first one), and …. finally added some enemies. Not that the enemies are much to have fun with at this point… all they do is stand there, and if you attack them with your sword, they will 'die' (disappear). I did play with the scale of things a bit, so right now some of the collision detection is off as far as the floor and steps go, which I'm going to correct before the final post tonight.

Anyways, hope you all are having a great day, and I'll see you in the chat room!

Hey, guys! After a very productive week (with programming, at least, but absolutely nothing else), I have finished my game - hurrah! Here's what I accomplished:

- Completed collision detection with all of the walls, everywhere, as one would expect in a game.
- Created an Easter Egg that is, compared to the small size of the game, huge, so maybe it's not really an Easter Egg. It's actually an alternate ending, haha!
- Added a menu.
- Added hidden rooms.
- Added a room type that has only one door.
- Added instructions for the game before it begins.
- Created a way to close the space in the rooms with four doors that would usually connect with other rooms, but were left open.

That doesn't really sound like a whole lot, but the Easter Egg/alternate ending really did take a lot of work, with a bunch of new artwork, several new classes, and a lot of different behaviors.

I've also gotten a few more achievements:
The Apprentice Becomes the Master: The competition ends and your temporary art becomes permanent without ever being upgraded to the final version, which was never made.
Special Thanks: Create a credits screen which list all those who have contributed to your project.
Mission Accomplished!: The challenge ends, and you actually have a game to show for it!
2KLOC: Your game reaches 2000 lines of source code. Keep it up! (2,466 lines!)
Silence is Not Golden: Add sound effects or background music to your game.

Here's the download link:
https://bitbucket.org/TheMazinTar/shadows-veil/downloads

As I've said, the instructions are in the game, but I will add that there are four hidden rooms to find, as well as the alternate ending. Enjoy, and let me know what you think!

In regards to this achievement:
Ninja's Don't Take Off Holidays: Created an Easter Egg featuring a ninja.
Personally, I think we should change this to a laser shooting bear Easter Egg, rather than a ninja Easter Egg, as a reference to our collaboration team name. Maybe it should be something like:
At Every Full Moon: Create an Easter Egg featuring a laser shooting/gun toting bear - a laser bear boss battle is optional to claim this achievement, but recommended.
What do you guys think?

I'm afraid that my game might not be finished by the time the competition ends, mainly because of school. I have been studying a lot this entire month, and the only time I was able to work on my game was during the weekends, and I didn't really have any free time during the last couple of them. I might finish the game this weekend, BUT I AM NOT GIVING UP, EXPECT UPDATES ON THIS THREAD EVEN AFTER THE COMPETITION ENDS! I might have a playable, half-done build up soon, but I will finish this game, even if it takes 10 years! Anyways, good luck on your projects and I hope you will finish your games in time for the end! I just hope I will finish this game in time!

Honestly it seems pretty fun. I mean we aren't able to play it right now but I'd say being chased by a monster with nothing but your flashlight while looking for objects is a fairly common and well trekked path. This actually kind of reminds me of Slenderman The Eight Pages. Oh and don't worry about the artwork, it serves the purpose and you can always rework it.

Hey, everyone! I can't believe we're in the final week now … Wow! However, due to some great timing, I've got this whole week off, so I should be able to do a lot of programming, and, most likely, completely finish my game on time! Just in this past week, since my last post, I've done a ton, so here's the list:

- Clues will now sometimes grant you additional light flashes, a new feature that will scare away the monster when the left mouse button is pressed. It's short range, though, and in limited supply, so use it carefully! Also, there's an icon that will appear in the top-right corner of the screen when you have a light flash.
- There's been a ton more work on fleshing out the monster. (It now will respawn, there's lots of new behavior and better old behavior, etc.)
- There's now a second floor of the building! (See picture below.) The second floor is illuminated, so the flashlight effect goes away, and acts as a safe haven from the monster. This is also where the game now begins, where the exit is location, where upgrades will be picked up, and, I believe, is almost completely finished.
- There are now doors that have to be unlocked to get places/things.
- The way goal pointers work has been overhauled. Previously, when the correct number of clues had been gathered, a room would be randomly chosen and an arrow would point to it, as the exit, but now, there are several goals that will unlock throughout the game, and each gets its own arrow pointer, and one set exit.
- I've begun work on collision detection with the walls after almost a month of procrastination! This is going to be my big project for today and maybe tomorrow, so, fingers crossed, I'll have this finished soon.

I'm also claiming some achievements:
Time Machine: Worked for over an hour on code that you rip out later that day. (I did a bunch of work on new behavior for the monster during the "all-night" coding marathon (I really only was there for an hour or two,) but I ripped it out the next day, I think, because it just wasn't good.)
The Tinker: Fiddle with a complicated piece of code and get it to work only after a lot of failed tweaks. (There's this really neat effect for walking up and down the staircase, I'll leave the description at that, that took some work and some tweaks to perfect.)
1KLOC: Your game reaches 1000 lines of source code. Making progress! Excellent! (Woo! 1,612 LOC, which means I've added 640 since the last update!)
Additions: Add at least one game feature that you weren't planning on or didn't think you had time for. (I've done a couple of small things, but the biggest one that I'm claiming this for is the second floor of the building.)
Jurassic Programming: While making your game run into a situation where you must add a ton of code lines to get something to work. (IE: adding points into a collision detection array) - "I wrote a million lines of code to run this park!" (Just what the example is - work on collision detection is still early, but I've already got a bunch of lines of code, and there's only gonna get to be more!)
Lonely: Program on a Friday or Saturday evening. (I've done this basically every weekend of the competition, I just haven't noticed the achievement, haha!)
Here's the screenshot (you can see the doors, the blocks with an X, and the staircase leading to the first floor here, but not the light flash icon - sorry!):

I would have a download to give you guys, because I've certainly done enough since the last one to have reason to, but I think I'm going to wait until I finish the game before letting you guys play it. Sorry!
