We completed the collab yesterday, and I'd say we accomplished quite a bit!

Here's the link to the codebase on GitHub, if you want to take a look (see the README for a disclaimer about the code quality): https://github.com/rbwhitaker/indy-500

And if you don't care about the source but want to play it, here's the link to the executables: https://github.com/rbwhitaker/indy-500/releases/tag/v1.0.0

Also, here's a video of what we made:

Correction! If we're starting from the repo I posted in the other thread, you ought to be able to go from there with just installing MonoGame normally. The one big thing that's missing is the templates, and since the repo already contains the project, that's probably not necessary for what we're doing. So use VS 2019 if you want!

Guys, I made a public GitHub repo as the starting point of the game:

https://github.com/rbwhitaker/indy-500

If you are planning on joining in, it might be useful to try to clone that project and open it up in Visual Studio 2017 and ensure you can compile and build it.

If you want to make a tweak to something somewhere and try to push that back up so we can make sure all of the permissions are set up, that would also be useful.

I don't really see a big need to do pull requests on this project. I think I ought to be able to ensure everybody can just push directly to the repo. But if you want to clone the repo into your own GitHub account, feel free to do so.

Let me know if you encounter any problems, or have a better way to approach any of this. This is the first time we've used Git and GitHub for this kind of thing, so we're blazing some trails here….

It's time to finalize the time frame for the collab. We already settled on 28 December 2019, which is now only a few days away.

We've typically done an 8-hour block (with people tinkering with the game for hours or days afterwards).

I know by picking a time, we might pick something that would eliminate people would otherwise have been interested. (If the time is overnight for you, that might be a deal breaker.)

We also don't have a lot of time to sit around and negotiate; we only have 6 days left.

So I'm going to just go ahead and say that the plan is to start at 15:00 (3 pm) UTC Time.
For me, in Utah, USA, that's at 8 am. For the US East Coast, it's 10 am. For the US West Coast, that's 7 am.

If you want help calculating when that would be for your specific location, please go to the following link and enter the city you live in: https://www.worldtimeserver.com/convert_time_in_UTC.aspx?y=2019&mo=12&d=22&h=15&mn=0.

It should already be set up to compare against 3 pm UTC time.

Caveats:

If you can only make a part of that, please still feel free to do so. Being around for two or four hours will still be fun.

If nobody (but me) can do that time, I'm willing to change it. (I just don't want to be quibbling over times for the next four days.)

What Git client do you use right now?

Visual Studio has built-in integration, but I'm using Souretree and Beyond Compare in general myself, not Visual Studio.

Depending on what you're already familiar with, you might just keep using those tools, rather than worry about VS.

I should probably also say that I'm not convinced we actually have the time to do networked multiplayer. That's tricky.

It would certainly be fun to try it. I really don't have any problems with somebody volunteering to work on networked multiplayer, and spending the bulk of their time there. (Or even a couple of people.) I just don't know if we'll cross that particular finish line (pun intended) in time. But we might, and it would be fun to try it!

I'll just say that I probably won't go do networked multiplayer until we have local machine multiplayer more or less working first. But this is a collab, and if somebody else wants to focus on networked multiplayer, I've got no problems with that.
